- All schools will have a site technology plan that supports the District curriculum and is consistent with the District Instructional Technology Plan.
- The District and schools will implement the K-12 technology curriculurn which will enable students to become effective and productive citizens in a global economy. The curriculum will reflect real world issues as students master information transfer and communications using a variety of media. Technology will serve as a gateway for as they communicate, access the information and conduct research via the Internet in support of the District curriculum.
- The primary consideration when purchasing computer technology will be the software. Software will be purchased that meets the needs of the curriculurn and the needs of the students at each individual school site; thus, software requirements will drive the hardware procurements.
- In those instances where an existing application (Instructional Learning System, Writing to Read, etc.) is to be expanded and considerable dollars have already been expended on that application, the equipment purchased should be compatible with the platform to be expanded.
- Dual platform (Win/Mac) software should be purchased whenever possible by schools and departments.
- In order to create greater flexibility in future purchases of software and hardware the Windows NT server software will be recommended when appropriate.
- The District will have a LAN in every school connected to the District WAN.
- The District will have Internet connectivity in every classroom.
- The District will have an interactive web page for every school site that is accessible by teachers, parents, students and the community.
- The District's objective is to have a ratio of one ( 1) computer for every four (4) students at each school.
- The District's objective is to have a ratio of one (1) LAN connected computer to every six (6) students.
- The District's objective is to have an Instructional Technology Facilitator (certified teacher /media specialist) with minimal classroom responsibilities for ever.v school in the implementation of special technology projects such as ABACUS, DOE technology initiatives, instructional learning systems, Intranet services, web page authoring, retrofit, etc.
- New hardware purchases must meet the minimum standards set by the District Technology Plan.
- Equipment purchased must be on the State or Government Bid List andlor be approved by the District Technology Committee. Non-standard clones will not be purchased due to potential maintenance problems and diff~culty in networking
- All site hardware and software purchases should be reviewed by the School-based Instructional Technology Facilitator, and/or the site technology committee.
- All site hardware and software purchases, that are required to be placed on the cost center inventory, should be reviewed by the Technology and Information Services Department to ensure all purchase orders that do not adhere to the standards in this document and the District Technology Plan will be returned to the cost center for revision. Special exceptions may be approved through a waiver process.
- All changes in the LAN infrastructure must be approved by the District.
- Every teacher will receive technology training, District based or site based, on an annual basis in order to effectively implement the technology curriculum.
