Freeware List for Educational Technology: Need a free/cheap CAD program or a MIDI sequencer? Bob Bowman has provided several categories in education with hundreds of links to support educational technology. While it is far from comprehensive, it does provide a nice jumping off point for other freeware sites as well. Don't forget to run a virus check on ANY software you download!

FCAT Explorer: A web-based tool that allows students to prepare for the FCAT in all grade levels. Using the tools in this program, students can practice with sample questions and answers similar to what they will see on the FCAT.
Riverdeep: Provides reading exercises for students up through the 3rd grade, and math activities all the way through high school. These interactive exercises are a big hit with students owing to their excellent graphics and engaging content. Riverdeep is a great tool for working on concepts that your child might be struggling with in school and truly makes learning fun.
Harcourt Math: Provides web-based activities for students using the same exercises found in our Elementary schools math textbooks. Students can practice their math skills or get extra help for those topics that they are struggling with on-line. You will need to obtain the user name and password from your child's teacher to use these assets.

Born to Read: The Association for Library Service to Children maintains a comprehensive listing of reading and writing resources for parents. Also available in Spanish.
Reading Checkup Guide: This guide from the American Academy of Pediatrics is intended to help parents evaluate their children’s progress through six stages of reading development, from picture-pointing to independent reading. Each checkup describes the knowledge and skills that most children demonstrate at a given stage, and suggests how they can be nurtured.
