FUNCTION:

The Director of Instructional Technology is responsible for panning, coordinating, and implementing the district plan for instructional technology; supporting technology users in the schools, consulting on the selection of technology equipment and related materials, and coordinating inservice activities in the area of instructional technology.

DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES:
  1. Coordinate ongoing development and implementation of the Sarasota County Schools Instructional Technology Plan.
  2. Serve as chair to the district Technology Support Committee made up of central support staff and school-based administrators.
  3. Provide consultation to the schools on the evaluation and selection of technology equipment and related material (software, CD-ROMS, videodiscs, etc.).
  4. Coordinate instructional technology related inservice, develop trainers within existing district staff, design and deliver advanced workshops, and locate training resources outside the school system as needed. Serve as district level contact and support person for school-based tech support staff.>
  5. Prepare instructional technology related grant applications at the district level and assist school staff in their responses to requests for proposals.
  6. Assist the Purchasing Department in developing bid specifications for instructional technology equipment and related materials, and school-wide data networks.
  7. Serve as central services liaison for School Advisory Councils and assist them in preparing their School Improvement Plans.
  8. Assist in developing instructional strategies using instructional technology across all content areas.
  9. Investigate emerging technologies and assess their potential for cost-effective use by students.
  10. Supervise instructional technology support staff in providing service to school and central staff.
  11. Coordinate district level software license acquisitions.
  12. Work with the Construction Department and the architect they designate in designing school facilities for the effective use of current and future technologies.
  13. Serve as the district copyright officer, responding to staff requests for information in this area and investigating the changes occurring in copyright law as it applies to emerging electronic media.
  14. Build a community support for technology in the schools by assisting teachers in marketing successful applications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Experience as a classroom teacher
  2. Experience using computers, networks, gateways, e-mail, multi-media materials and ITV.
  3. Experience which displays leadership and organizational skills.
  4. Experience in teacher training in the use of technology for instrutional purposes.
